Brain briefings : glioma brain tumors
This is one of the Brain Briefing newsletters produced by
the US Society for Neuroscience, aimed specifically for
a lay audience. The aim of these documents is "to explain
how basic neuroscience discoveries lead to clinical applications".
This document titled "Glioma Brain Tumors" covers
the biological makeup and survival mechanisms of glioma
tumours and the methods researchers are developing that
will hopefully kill the brain cancer. Also discussed is
the protein, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and
molecules which appear to to block VEGF activity and starve
glioma tumours. Written in June 1998, this document contains
images and illustrations.
